Let’s travel further together!
Are you looking for an engaging Blog Post, Travel Article or Tourism Marketing Translation? You’ve come to the right place!
FilmFanTravel.com is a niche Travel Blog that helps budget-conscious “film fan travellers” to plan their next film-inspired travel adventure.
My name is Sonja and I am the founder and editor of this blog. I was born and raised in Northwest Germany, but have spent almost 5 years living and working in the UK (3 ½ in the capital London). For this reason and because my target audience mainly consists of readers from the USA, the UK and Australia, I write exclusively in English.
Aside from budget-friendly travel and activity tips based on my own travel experiences, I also write film reviews of contemporary films that have the license to inspire others to travel to the place themselves. I have also been a part-time cinema employee for many years since the time I was still at school and all through my 3 ½ years in London. This, of course, fuelled my interest in contemporary films (late 1990s/2000 onwards) from all over the world.
Please feel free to have a look my three key Freelance services below. You can also check out this world map for an overview of all the destinations I have visited and written about so far.
1. As a Travel Blogger for FilmFanTravel.com:
I am always on the lookout for fun travel activities and experiences that would appeal to my target audience – budget-conscious “film fan travellers”:
I consider the following opportunities for sponsored content. In exchange for a complimentary ticket, I will write about my experience and thus promote your organisation.
- Destination Reviews
- Activities and Guided Tour Reviews
- Restaurant Reviews (especially vegetarian)
- Hotel / Accommodation Reviews
- Product Reviews (if related to travel or films)
- Fam Trips
Providing added value to my readers is my first priority, therefore any sponsored post has to be a good fit for my readers. I am not promoting something I wouldn’t enjoy myself. So as much as I would love to stay there of course, a super-expensive luxury hotel would probably not be a good fit for a review. Unless there are special deals and / or its related to a film location…
Here are some of the brands I have worked with so far:
- Visit Sweden
- Visit Stockholm
- Vancouver Food Tours
- Cincinnati Food Tours
- On Location Tours
- Tour Desk Iceland
- Happy Tours Iceland
- BusTravel Iceland
- Volcano House
- German Spy Museum
- Day Tours Unplugged
- Happy Day Tours Delft
- VVV Delft
- Vienna Tourism Board
- Bavaria Filmstadt Munich
2. As a Travel Writer and Travel Journalist:
Being an avid traveller myself, I enjoy researching the best tips on my trips and then share these with a specific audience through writing.
Since 2013, I have been a regular content contributor to the print and online magazine Discover Germany, Austria & Switzerland. Conducting the interviews for the articles in German and then writing the article / advertorial in English has significantly strengthened my English writing skills.
Today, I provide writing services such as Features, City and Destination overviews or portraits, interviews etc. to online and print magazines worldwide (writing both in English and German).
My recently visited destinations include:
Early Winter (February) 2017:
- Stockholm, Sweden
- Lapland (Sweden, Finland, Norway)
- Berlin, Germany
- West Canada (Edmonton, Banff, Calgary, Lake Louise, Kamloops, Vancouver)

3. As a (Tourism Marketing) Translator and Proofreader:
In addition to writing about travel destinations, I also provide professional translation and transcreation services within my specialist subject area of Tourism Marketing.
As a qualified Translator (Bachelor degree in Translation and Multilingual Communication from the University of Applied Sciences Cologne), I have gained more than 10 years of international work experience by providing translations, proofreading, editing and project management services to agencies and organisations in the UK, the US, Germany and France.
The language pairs I currently provide are: German-English, English-German and French-German
